The Historical Blacksburg project provides a time-map interface to historical multimedia related to Blacksburg, Virginia. This application is displaying the records from a geolocated multimedia database for images, audio, video, text, and 3d objects. The initial development has focused on late 1930s Blacksburg.
A web form for adding additional geolocated multimedia references can be made available to organizations or individuals who would like to contribute. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

The Geolocated Multimedia project is coordinated by Peter Sforza at the Center for Geospatial Information Technology at Virginia Tech (CGIT). Joseph Banks, Brian Widerman, and Kui Xu (VT Computer Science students) implemented version 1.0 of the geolocated multimedia database (a time-map, refined the dynamic kml php, and created a page to contribute new records) for a class project in CS 4624 taught in Spring 2010 by Dr. Ed Fox. The dynamickml code was adapted from Seth Peery. Currently, the database can host multimedia files, however it is preferred to link to existing collections.
